Strong youth – strong future. Local forms of support and mentoring for young people.

Initiatives to support the exclusion of young people and to provide them with psychological support and to empower young people are an important topic in Valencia and a number of actions are being taken in this direction. Recently, the Generalitat Valenciana program has been launched – a program to support young people in the protection system or at risk of exclusion. Nearly €6 million has been allocated to support young people who are in the protection system or at risk of social exclusion. The resolution, published in the Official Gazette of Valencia (DOGV), approves a joint action agreement with the entities that will manage the service in 13 scattered throughout the Valencian Community. The aim of these agreements is to guarantee care and support for young people in the process of emancipation and personal autonomy. The initiative is planned until 2027.

In the Valencian area, there is an organization called Fundación Princesa de Girona, which implements the project “Mentoring Valencia” aimed at young people aged 16-22 in the cities of the province of Valencia.  The project consists of two main activities: group mentoring sessions in schools (“mentoring groupal”) and individual career mentoring processes (vocacional) – each young participant is assigned a mentor from the company. The aim is to strengthen the psychological capital of young people, personal development, motivation, and work on aspirations.

Another example is the Fundación Amigó in Valencia, which supports young people in the process of transition to self-reliance and socio-professional inclusion, especially people who have been under public care or are at risk of exclusion.  As part of the “Oficinas Mentora” in Valencia: young people (18-25 years old) receive care, orientation, individual support in psychological/emotional, social and educational matters.  In the first half of the year of the “Mentor” program in the region, the project implemented 519 visits for young people in the process of transition to independence.

In Valencia, there is an organization called Asociación Periferia that provides support for young people. They started their activity in 1991. They are currently running the project “Centro de Día para menores y jóvenes” addressed to young people with personal, family, professional and social conflicts, requiring socio-educational support and individual monitoring.

The city of Valencia offers a psychological support service for young people (12-30 years old): “T’Escoltem”. It has the character of individual, confidential support, aimed at improving emotional well-being, strengthening personal and social skills. This is an example of a specific offer of psychological assistance for young people in the city of Valencia.

In Catarroja (in the province of Valencia), the City Hall, together with the Youth Service and the “Bienestar Social” department, has launched a workshop on psychological support for young people. By November 2025, several services, programs, and projects will be active that provide free and confidential psychological care resources. Individual and group care is offered to young people aged 16 to 30. Individual sessions are conducted by a team of psychologists. At the same time, as part of the commune revitalization project, exploratory and emotional strengthening workshops are conducted in the commune’s upper secondary schools.  The action is part of the mental health and emotional well-being policy for young people in the municipality.
