STRONGER YOUTH: Empowering the Young Generation through Peer Mentoring

Stronger Youth, focused on supporting the mental well-being of adolescents and preventing social exclusion, has over the past two years brought new tools and methods to local communities that strengthen both young people and their educators.

Peer mentoring as a path to more resilient youth

At the core of the project is the method of peer mentoring – involving adolescents themselves in mutual support and the development of social skills. As part of the activities carried out in Palermo and Caltanissetta, six teams of mentors and students were created under the guidance of three educators. Together they tested 30 activities focused on building relationships, teamwork, emotional regulation, and other key skills necessary for healthy social functioning.

The Covid-19 pandemic significantly affected the quality of life of young people – it brought an increase in feelings of loneliness, a decline in mental well-being, and weakened interpersonal relationships. This is why the Stronger Youth project is so important for the local context: it helps young people manage social relationships better, recognize signs of psychological distress, and actively respond to them.

Positive impacts and participant feedback

The results of the activities show that the chosen methodology works. Participants reported in evaluation questionnaires that they had strengthened their interpersonal skills and gained new tools to improve their social abilities. Some also suggested that the activities should be repeated in the future and that more adults should be involved.

Digital innovation: Online Skills Assessment Tool (OSAT)

An important outcome of the project is also the digital platform OSAT (Online Skills Assessment Tool). This tool helps young people evaluate their social competences, provides feedback, and offers recommendations for further development. It thus supports self-awareness, leads to better preparedness to become a mentor, and facilitates the work of schools and youth organizations.

Dissemination of results and next steps

The project is now approaching its conclusion. On the website www.strongeryouth.eu, all created materials are available – from methodological tools and guides for educators to pilot activities and a promotional video. In October 2025, Multiplier Events will take place in all partner countries, presenting the results to the wider public and local stakeholders. The final transnational partner meeting will be held in November in Łódź, Poland, concluding with an international online conference.
